BAKER GURVITZ ARMY: BAKER GURVITZ ARMY
Baker Gurvitz Army is a solid effort from drumming star Ginger Baker and co.. Decent songwriting which incorporates touches of Prog on the Hard Rock foundation allow the band to exercise their chops. The propulsive on point attack of the drums and fiery impressive axework more than make up for the nondescript vocals and corny lightweight melodies of the tracks. Incendiary and inspired, Baker shows he's got the power trio mojo still working with this outfit. At the time of its release, this album would probably have been seen as hard rock rather than prog, but our ever widening definition of our genre means that it now sits comfortably within these confines.
