PETER BAUMANN: TRANSHARMONIC NIGHTS

Peter Baumann's second solo record is another marvelous piece of work, with deceitfully simple but charming melodies, oozing romance and elegance, entangling the listener in a fascinating sonic landscape. It's the kind of music that grows in you with repeated listenings, an album that rewards persistence and doesn't show all its wonders unless you pay close attention. Like the rest of Peter Baumann's work, it's a sort of an acquired taste. Besides a modular synthesizer, drums, horns and recorders contribute to the beautiful, atmospheric sounds. The tracks on Trans Harmonic Nights are relatively short, rhythmic and buoyant, embellished with a breathtaking array of sound effects. There is no evidence of voices in the sleeve notes thus one has to assume that in some instances the sequences resembling vocals were creating by synths.
